In June 2008, German automobile maker Audi had three R10 TDI prototypes running on biofuel at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's most prestigious endurance race. Last year, the IndyCar Series switched to 100 percent fuel-grade ethanol, making the organization the motorsports leader in renewable and environmentally responsible fuel produced in the United States.

Volkswagen has also taken a leadership role with their 2009 Jetta TDI Cup, a Sports Car Club of America sanctioned event where all vehicles are required to run on Clean Diesel. Volkswagen recently announced at the National Biodiesel Conference and Expo in San Francisco that B5 will be the official fuel of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Racing Series. Approximately 3,192 gallons of B5 will be used to fuel the diesel race cars as well as the transport trucks and generators throughout the series.

The new racing fuel produced by Northington Energy - Research 3 Biodiesel (R3b)™ - a premium laboratory quality biofuel is distributed from the company's southeastern - based sales office and sold through select racing fuel suppliers across the U.S. under the NorthingtonSport™ brand.
