American consumers and companies are gravitating forward to alternative fuel sources like biodiesel in ever increasing numbers. Because biodiesel originates from organic sources, it is better for the environment. It’s biodegradable, nontoxic, and produces less air pollution than traditional diesel fuel. In the United States, biodiesel is typically blended with fossil-based diesel fuels and is suitable for almost any light- or heavy-duty diesel engine. Second generation biofuel technologies are currently being developed to extend the amount of fuel that can be sustainably produced by not using traditional food crops. These new biofuel production methods that use alternative feedstocks such as algae will help in solving “food for fuel” issues and can supply a larger portion of fuel with greater biodiversity. |
